A Little History

In 1995, my friend Jammin' Jeff Cerwinske told me a wonderful story about his Granny Wolff and her fabulous toffee. She searched for years to find the perfect toffee recipe. She cooked every one she came across. Finally, in 1935, in the library of a small town in Minnesota, her persistence was sweetly rewarded when she unearthed the recipe for the best toffee that she had ever tasted. Sadly, Granny Wolff had long since passed on and Jeff was longing to taste that special delicacy from his youth. He shared this treasure with me in hopes that I would recreate that marvelous treat from days gone by. And so I did!

At the time, I was struggling to raise my children on my own in a little town in SW Colorado with the calming vista of the Lone Cone Mountain on the horizon. I was always on the lookout for a home based business that would enable me to be home when my kids were. Once I cooked Granny Wolff's toffee and shared it with some friends, I knew that I had found the answer to my prayers. Making this endeavor particularly challenging was the fact that I didn't have a penny to spare for the movies, much less to start a business.

Once I had received the blessing from Gretchen, Granny Wolff's daughter, I enlisted my friends, one smarter and more creative than the next. They came to my rescue in every way. Not only did they bring up every question that would need to be addressed, they came through in tangible ways as well.

Maurice Richard lent me $100 to buy ingredients and packaging. Phyllis Walker, a marvelous artist, created my original logo. David Messer helped to find me a kitchen and worked as my handyman. Joan Pogalies, an amazing graphic artist, designed a beautiful brochure for me. Lita Wright designed some very clever packaging and Stephanie Morrow rolled up her sleeves and played Ethel to my Lucy in the candy factory episode. Without the help of all these wonderful friends, Lone Cone Toffee would have remained an unattainable dream. And no one, other than my friends and family, and Jammin' Jeff's, would ever have gotten to experience what almost everyone who has ever tried it refers to as,
"The best toffee I have ever tasted".

Testimonials

Take one taste of Lone Cone Toffee and you'll understand why confection fanciers throughout the country sing its praises. Just like Emmylou Harris did!

  • "If no one has ever told you, your horns are growing out of you head, and you are the Satan of giving. That TOFFEE you sent us is about the best tasting dang thing I have EVER put in my mouth. The more you eat, the more you want. I will be driving down the road and all I think about is getting back to the house to have some of that darn toffee. If the Good Lord wants the wicked to march off a mile high cliff, all it would take is a pole, a string and a piece of this toffee hanging about 10 feet out. There is no doubt, this is the best tasting candy I can remember ever eating."
